Shattered Hearts:  Chapter One

A/N: My new story, as I felt like writing something that isn't in my usual genre of humor. This take place after Discordia and Trials and Turmoil never happened.

When Discord is possessed by a dark entity, he is forced to watch as the creature takes control of his life, slowly alienating everyone he has ever known. But, more importantly, what is this being planning?

This chapter is also my entry for the CelestiaCord Valentines Contest, although the romance problems probably won't get big until later.

Chapter One: Madness Incarnate




The Spirit of Chaos. That is what Discord was. And he certainly lived up to it. He was the most random and chaotic being in all of Equestria. And that was exactly why a shadowy being had been trailing him for quite some time now.

The creature hadn't been doing anything except that ever since Discord's third escape from stone. He had been watching, planning, calculating. And now he had finally decided that it was time to strike.


Discord was unaware of his shadowy follower until, one morning he rounded a corner and hit a solid wall of nothingness. Turning around, he felt another wall imprisoning him. He was trapped, just as our shadow wanted.

Discord felt a smooth, yet somewhat intangible weight on his shoulder. It was almost soothing, a gentle, snaking, thin object that slowly snaked around his shoulders. It was peaceful. At least it was, until the thing suddenly constricted, throttling him.

His body was flung around by the tail, as that is what it was revealed to be, landing him face-to-face with a nightmare of a creature. It was shaped like a human, but with pitch-black skin, long elfin ears, a mouth of sharp teeth and glowing white eyes. Its fingertips and toes, instead of being rounded like a human's, were pointed claws. The tail wrapped around his throat end in a vicious, foot long blade. It had wings, great big things that seemed to be a line of long blades replacing the thin skin that would be on the wings of normal creatures. It wore a long, black coat, and oozed an air of malice.

"Hello...!" the creature said, in a smooth, yet somewhat singsong voice. Discord stared in shock at it. "My name's Insanity. And I've been watching you for quite some time!" it chirruped. Discord stared at it, determining it to be male. "Uh... what exactly do you want with me?" Discord slowly asked, wondering exactly how much Insanity lived up to his name. "Oh, that's easy..." Insanity grinned, "I just want to do what everyone wants to do at some point. You know, see the sights, live the life, possess the spirit of chaos... You know... normal stuff!"

Discord tried to worm his way out of Insanity's grasp, but found himself overpowered by the dark being. A quick test showed that he couldn't teleport away either. He was trapped.

"Now, now... Don't worry... This won't hurt at all!" Insanity chuckled, singsong tone gone, replaced with one that dripped evil. "Just look into my eyes... And everything will be okay..."

Discord tried to look away, but Insanity's tail kept his head in place. Insanity's eyes began to glow brighter, until Discord's entire vision was overwhelmed by a surge of white. Then everything went dark, and Discord would not truly awaken for quite some time.




Discord, or rather Discord's body grinned. Insanity stretched the stolen body, testing its limits. Chuckling, he was about to fly off, when Celestia walked up to him. Insanity had already decided that the death of the rulers of this land seemed like a promising venture, and began to prepare a spell.

"Discord!" Celestia greeted happily, as this is happening a few weeks after Discordia, meaning that they have been going strong in their relationship. "Something rather... interesting has shown up in Ponyville."

Insanity wasn't paying much attention, rifling through Discords array of spells to find one suited to his needs.

"You see, Fluttershy found a wounded animal trapped until some strange, metallic debris... It appears to be incredibly magical, and nearly indestructible. It almost seems like it's part of a larger whole..."

As Celestia mused on what this object could possibly be, Insanity mentally froze. This object sounded a lot like something he had seen before. And if it was... think of all the fun he could have! But first to get rid of Sunshine here...

"Well, I think I should go look at it! Okay? Thanks, bye!" Insanity then proceeded to teleport himself to the area around Fluttershy's house in a hurry.

Celestia cocked her head in confusion. Discord didn't normally act like this, and certainly not to her... Something must be troubling him, she decided, and he'll probably be back to normal soon.

Oh, how wrong she was...




Discord groaned in pain. Opening his eyes, he saw he was moving. He tried to stop, then realized, with a jolt of horror, that he couldn't feel his body. He was trapped in his mind, as Insanity used it like a taxi.




Insanity reappeared in a part of the Everfree Forest. It didn't take long to locate the smoking piece of machinery. It was a silvery-black colour, and was filled with magical energy. It was undoubtedly what he was looking for.

Hefting it up, he teleported to Discord's room in the palace, where chaos seemed to be the only law, and even that law was made to be broken. Setting it down, he began to formulate a plan. He would need to find the other parts of the device, yes... but he would have fun doing so. He was Insanity, and he loved making life hell for others. He would destroy Discord's life. He would shatter his relationship with Celestia. And best of all? Discord would be forced to watch as it happened, yet unable to do a thing to stop it.

Insanity laid back. It was fun leading a bad man's life.



A/N: Oh noes! Whatever will happen next? Insanity is one mean person, it seems. And he'll only get worse. He's the epitome of senseless malice, after all. So it seems Discord is forced to watch someone shatter the relationships that took so long to build. And what's with the machine parts? Find out next chapter!
